The Hispanic Collections, a subgroup of Special Collections, is meant to be a gateway to access the inventories of The Arte Publico Press Records, the archival collections accumulated through the efforts of the Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project, and added Hispanic cultural documentary materials.

- The Arte Público Press is the nation's largest and most established publisher of contemporary and recovered literature by U.S. Latina and Latino authors. Based at the University of Houston, Arte Público Press, Piñata Books, and the Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project provide the most widely recognized and extensive showcase for Hispanic literary arts, history, and politics.
- The Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project is a national program to locate, identify, preserve and make accessible the literary contributions of U.S. Hispanics from colonial times through 1960 in what today comprises the fifty states of the Union. The project is under the direction of Dr. Nicolás Kanellos, founder and director of Arte Público Press, the oldest and largest publisher of U.S. Hispanic literature in the nation.
