The University of Houston Libraries proudly are preparing for another landmark achievement. This fall, the libraries will acquire their two-millionth volume. With the realization of this goal, the university marks its determination to provide the best learning environment possible.

The libraries will honor their developing success by hosting a week-long series of lectures and discussions about creative writing, book collecting, and electronic publishing. The celebration will be ceremoniously consummated with the unveiling of a very special book as the libraries' two-millionth volume on November 6, 1998. More than $52,000 was pledged this year to the University of Houston through the class of 1998 Senior Challenge Campaign. Graduating seniors pledged gifts to the UH college or program of their choice, with the University Libraries receiving a total of $9,620 in pledges from this year's class. This amount is 18% of the total pledges and an increase from last year's gift of $7,600 to the University Libraries.

A check was presented at the May commencement ceremony to Dr. Arthur K. Smith by senior Joel Westra, chair of the Senior Challenge Campaign. The University Libraries would like to extend our sincere appreciation to these seniors for their support and dedication.
