TexShare: Check it out

If you do not have a TexShare card, get one. Faculty, staff and students at all Texas colleges and universities are eligible to check out books from any of the participating university libraries.

TexShare is a state-wide consortium of Texas universities and college. This year, the Texas legislature expanded the TexShare program from the state-supported universities to include community colleges and private universities. More than 180 academic libraries are eligible to participate.

University of Houston faculty, staff and students who need a TexShare card may obtain one from the M.D. Anderson Library circulation desk. You must obtain a card before visiting another library to check out books. Users are responsible for returning materials to the library from which they were borrowed.

The TexShare Resource Sharing program also includes an inexpensive and efficient daily courier service that transports materials daily among the participating libraries. The TExpress Courier Service has dramatically reduced the time it takes to send books from one library to another.

Whether you choose to obtain materials from another academic library in person or through the library's interlibrary loan services, TexShare is helping to provide the information you need as efficiently as possible by sharing the resources of all Texas academic libraries with all Texas faculty, staff and students.

Venezuelan Consulate Donates Book Collection

Sybil Todd, Gerardo E. Wills, Eduardo Aguirre, Dean Dana RooksOn June 16, 1998 the Venezuelan Consulate General's office in Houston presented a donation of more than 300 books in Spanish to the University of Houston Libraries. The books covered various subject areas such as Venezuelan geography, history, economy and culture. These books were donated in the name of the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Ministry. In addition, the Ministry of Defense of Venezuela donated a special 34 volume collection titled General O'Leary's Memories. The general wrote his memoirs while with Simon Bolivar, "the Liberator," during his historic battles for freedom.

The UH Libraries greatly appreciate the generosity of the Venezuelan Consulate. This collection will serve as a valuable resource for our students, faculty and the UH community.
