Mr. Borget was born in Winnepeg, Canada, in 1913 and earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1937 from the University of Minnesota. He worked for Alden B. Dow in the 1940s, before joining MacKie & Kamrath in 1949. The firm of MacKie & Kamrath designed many of Houston's major buildings of the 1950s and 1960s, including the Schlumberger Well Services building, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the First Pasadena State Bank Building, and the Science and Research Center on the UH campus.
Mr. Borget's library includes an outstanding collection of books by and about Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as many significant books on Japanese architecture, the architecture of the American South, and the art work of Picasso. Some of the highlights of the collection include the Selected Drawings Portfolio by Frank Lloyd Wright, published in a limited edition of 500 copies by Horizon Press in 1977, the first edition of Frank Lloyd Wright's When Democracy Builds, published in 1945, and the January 1938 issue of Architectural Forum that was devoted to Wright's work.
Mr. Borget's love of architecture and books is evident in his collection. Many future generations now will be able to benefit from the books added to the library's collection through his generosity.
