Adam Zagajewski, distinguished poet, fiction writer and essayist, was born in Lvov (now the Ukraine) in 1945 and emigrated from Poland to France in 1982. His poetry collections in English include Tremor (1985), Canvas (1991), and Mysticism for Beginners (1997). His collections of essays include Solidarity, Solitude (1990), Two Cities (1995), and Another Beauty (2000). His latest book of poetry is entitled Without End, published by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. Since 1988, Zagajewski has served as Visiting Associate Professor of English in the Creative Writing Program at UH.
