Health and Education

Houston is home to numerous schools and colleges, both public and private. HISD, the Houston Independent School District, houses many K-12 schools, including some highly-ranked pre-school programs, such as Montessori. Rice University and the University of Houston are perhaps the most well known universities in the area, but there are many other, smaller colleges as well. Houston Community College (the second largest community college in North America) and North Harris County Community College both offer 5 campuses in the area, so there's bound to be a branch convenient to where you live. The predominance of medical fields of study in area colleges and universities reflects the large number of medical institutions in the area. The Memorial Herman Healthcare System offers 9 locations in the greater Houston area, and the Texas Medical Center is a well-known feature of the city.
