Search and Recall Services

Search for materials not on shelf

If a book or bound journal you need is not on the shelf, you may submit a missing item report via the catalog page of that item. Assistance is available at any library service desk. Llibrary staff will search for the item for the 5 business days following date of submission. You will be notified when the item is found.

  • Books found through the search service will be held at the Service Desk for seven (7) days.
  • Due to heavy demand, bound journals will be reshelved in the correct location within 24 hours.

If the library staff cannot find the item, UH patrons may opt to request the item through the free Interlibrary Loan service. Indicate on the search form if you would like to use the service. A request will be automatically generated for you. ILL service time varies according to the geographic location and number of institutions solicited for the item.

If a book that you need is checked out to another library user, you can request the item through Interlibrary Loan using the QuickLoan service.

The QuickLoan button should appear in the catalog record for the item. Click on the QuickLoan button to be directed to the ILL login.

Once you log in to your ILL account, an ILL request form will be prepopulated with the book information.

Recall materials currently checked out

Faculty members also have the option to recall items checked out to other library users. Speak to a staff member at the Service Desk to have a recall placed on an item.

Please note that QuickLoan is often faster than placing a recall, and allows both users to have access to the item.
