Technical Information

Edward Topsell's History of Four-Footed Beasts and Serpents . . . was photographed with a Nikon D1X digital camera mounted on a copy stand with lights. The camera was purchased with funds from a grant by the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board. The individual woodcuts were photographed at a resolution of 300 dpi and saved as high quality TIFFs that would serve as archival master images for future use.

Using Adobe Photoshop 7.0, the images were enhanced for greater contrast and image clarity, and in some instances, brown spots or text bleedthrough in the original image were reduced. These enhanced images were saved as JPEGs at a resolution of 72 dpi and a size of approximately 500 x 365 pixels to serve as reference images on the web.

The Web site is generated from a SQL Server 2000 database and processed with ColdFusion server 5.0. The code is XHTML 1.0 compliant.
