Provost
The Senior Vice President and Provost is the chief academic officer of the University of Houston. All academic programs including undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, distance and continuing education report to the Office of the Provost. The deans of fourteen colleges as well as the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies and the Dean of the Libraries also report to the Senior Vice President and Provost. This person also conducts reviews of Deans and supports development activities in many colleges. The Provost frequently represents the University of Houston at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the state legislature, and at various national organizations. In collaboration with various faculty committees, the chief academic officer sets the academic policy of the University. This person also is the officer who oversees promotion and tenure and faculty grievances. The Senior Vice President and Provost chairs the Provost's Cabinet, the Council of Deans, and meets regularly with the Faculty Senate. As Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, this individual also chairs the UH System’s Council of Provosts and meets regularly with the Universities Faculty Executive Council.
