Desktop Computers

M.D. Anderson Library

  • Over 250 computers (PC only) are available in the Academic Research Center:
  • Provide access to the library catalog, electronic resources (databases, e-journals and e-books) and the Web
  • A CougarNet login is required to use these computers.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 suite (Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint) installed
  • Access to personal networked file space on campus server
  • Six collaborative workrooms with CougarNet computers and widescreen (42") monitors for group study
  • 70 laptops are available for 3-hour checkout from the Service Desk
  • The Learning Commons has 52 Macs and PCs with specialized software
  • 13 limited access computers are available for public use
  • 12 computers in 24 hr lounge (cougar net accont required to access).
  • Catalog terminals are available in the Academic Research Center as well as on every floor near the elevators

Architecture & Art Library

  • The Architecture and Art Library provides 13 computers to library users.
  • 2 provide online access to library resources, including the catalog, databases, and research sites on the Web. They may not be used for email or WebCT.
  • 9 workstations are on the campus network (CougarNet). Student may access online resources, WebCT, email, and Microsoft Office software from these terminals.
  • 2 laptops are also available and may be checked out with a valid UH Cougar 1 Card.
  • Printing is available from all workstations and laptops. Students, faculty and staff members are given 500 single-sided (333 duplex) free black-and-white prints per semester. The cost is five cents per page, thereafter. 

Music Library 

  • The Music Library has 15 computers for library users. 
    • 3 are dedicated terminals for the library catalog, databases, and research sites on the Web. They have no word processing or other software.
    • 12 workstations are on the campus network (CougarNet). Students may access online resources, WebCT, e-mail, Finale Notepad, and Microsoft Office software from these terminals.
  • 6 laptops are also available and may be checked out with a valid UH Cougar1 Card.
  • Printing is available from all workstations and laptops. Students are allowed 500 single-sided (333 duplex) free black-and-white copies per semester. 

Optometry Library 

  • The computer lab is a Microsoft environment, with 36 PCs, 2 printers, and a scanner.
  • Use of the lab is restricted to Optometry students, faculty, and staff.
