Search for materials not on shelf
If a book or bound journal you need is not on the shelf, you may fill out a recall/search form at any library service desk. The library staff will search for it for three weeks or until it is found, and you will be notified when they find it. Circulating books will be placed on hold for you to pick up.
If the library staff cannot find the item after one search, you may request the book or journal articles through Interlibrary Loan. Ask the Service Desk staff to verify that it could not be found after one search.
Recall materials currently checked out
If a book that you need is checked out to another library user, it can be recalled for your use, regardless of the original due date. You can recall the book using the link provided on the item's UH Library Catalog page, or by filling out a recall/search form at any library service desk. Circulation staff will notify the current borrower that the item has been recalled and assign a revised due date. Depending on the circumstances, the new due date can be anywhere from 7 to 21 days from the date of the recall request.
If you have checked out a book, and it is recalled for another library user, you will receive a notice with a revised due date. After the due date listed on your recall notice, you will be assessed a fine of $3.00 per day.
